Home-made bread and tea, with edible ink and stencil.
Displayed in Rewilding the Kitchen “Open Kitchen” Exhibition at Alserkal Avenue.
Egyptian Flatbread baked by a mother and her son, imbuing acts of care and love as they bake and break bread. Stenciled onto the bread is a reminder of the labor, love, and sacrifice of the Egyptian people during the Bread Riots of 1977. Visitors were asked to come into the space as a soundscape played collaging sounds from the Bread Riots of ‘77 and Egyptian bakeries as they baked Egyptian flatbread throughout the generations and to dip their bread into tea with milk, a staple and basic Egyptian delicacy exercising of taste, indulgence, and pleasure.
